What to do
in and around Tauplitz?
Summer and winter activities
Tauplitz in winter
The chalet is located in the village of Tauplitz. You will reach the village center in a 10-minute walk, here you will find a bakery, a small supermarket, the local pub, a post office, an outdoor sports shop, the chairlift and two ski schools. Also there are a number of hotels and restaurants where a local meal can be enjoyed.
From the village, a chairlift goes up and down towards the Tauplitzalm. The ski area, called Die Tauplitz, is a medium-sized family ski area with 20 lifts and 43 km of well-prepared slopes (19 blue, 15 red and 5 black) across three different mountains and the Tauplitzalm. The area is suited for all levels from beginner to expert. In addition to the slopes, there are also various avalanche-safe off-piste descents. Thanks to its favourable geographical location, Tauplitz is one of the snowiest areas in the Alps. In addition, significant investments have been made in snow security through snow storage and cannons.
Night tobogganing is possible at the Grafenwiesen, which is located about a 15 to 20 minute walk from the house. The run is 650 metres long and covers a height difference of 95 metres which makes it possible to reach speeds of up to 60km/h.
Die Tauplitz is part of partnership with four other ski area’s all within a 30 to 45 minute drive under the name Schneebaeren card, your skipass also includes these other area’s.
Tauplitz is also part of the Langlauf, Ski & Thermen paradise Salzkammergut.
Summer activities
Hiking
There are several walks directly from the house, through the woods, to the waterfall or around the village starting from 30 minutes and up to a full day. There are signposts everywhere so you won't get lost.
Also, you can take the quad chairlift up the Tauplitzalm. With its six lakes it is the biggest lake plateau in Central Europe. There are wonderful hiking trails along these lakes, some easy, some more challenging. Breathtaking views guaranteed. On the alm there are also several huts which can provide you a lovely drink or lunch. It’s also possible to walk directly from the house all the way up to the alm.
Climbing
There are several well-prepared climbing routes in the area, and there are also several ‘Via Feratta’ trails. The local hills are made of granite, which offers good opportunities for mountain climbing.
Although the Grimming is not a special mountain in absolute height, it is very appealing to the imagination. The Grimming consists entirely of one type of stone and is therefore the largest monolith in Europe. In addition, the Grimming is not part of a larger massif, which means that the Grimming is ‘free’ all around. As a result, the Grimming has steep granite walls all around that go from the foot of the mountain to the top in one and a half kilometres. The Grimming is 2,351 metres high. The climb via the shortest route from Kulm is still 1,393 metres in altitude.
Hüttentouren / Hut tours
Tauplitz is the starting point for many hut tours. LinzerHaus, Hochmölbing hut, Pühringer hut, Ernst Appel Haus and many other huts make it possible to make multi-day hut tours through the Totesgebirge or Dachstein massif. It is strongly recommended to book the overnight stays in advance.
Salzkammergut region
The area of Tauplitz is a well-known summer destination and is part of the Salzkammergut region. About a 30 to 45 minute drive away you will find the mountain lakes Altaussee, Grundlsee and Toplitzsee with a beautifull fish restaurtant. Grundlsee offers several ‘beaches’ and the possibility to rent SUP’s (Stand Up Paddle), surf boards, water cycles, and small electric boats. There are also various catering facilities alongside these lakes.
Cycling
The area offers many paths for racing and mountain bikes including on the Tauplitzalm. The most famous racing bike route is the 47 km long Salzkammergut cycle path, which stretches from Trautenfels Castle in the Enns Valley through the beautiful landscape around four lakes, the Ödensee protected area, to Blaa-Alm in Altaussee.
Mountainbikes and e-bikes can also be rented in Tauplitz at sport spanner or Hotel Seebacherhof.
Tennis
There are two clay tennis courts in Tauplitz which are located next to our chalet. The view from these courts is priceless. Anyone can book a court through the QR code available at the terrace of the club house or use this link, login with gast and gast. Payment needs to be done in cash with our neigbour Anneliese across from the street
Swimming / watersports
In the village, just a few hundred meters from the house, there is a swimming pool where you can swim for a fee. The swimming pool is only open on nice days. The view of the Grimming is also truly spectacular from the swimming pool.
In addition, there are various opportunities to swim in a lake. For example, about a 20-minute drive away is Ödensee. They also rent BBQs and have a nice restaurant Genuss am See where you can eat and drink.
Golfing
Within a 15 to 30 minute drive of Tauplitz there are three excellent golf courses.
The best 18 holes golf course near Tauplitz is Golf & Country Club Schloss Pichlarn. This golf club was Real Madrid's summer training camp for many years.
Golfclub Ennstal/Weissenbach. Best described as a polder course. Wide fairways with many water features. Cosy informal club atmosphere and very open to guest players, also for club tournaments.
Golfclub Ausseerland: Bad Aussee. Smaller 9-hole golf course. 6 holes compactly packed together near buildings, but the 3 holes with a view of the Dachstein make up for a lot.
